Do you relate to how Bunny told Naina about how he cannot live a life having Dal Chawal till he dies?
Ever wanted to just have a work-free day where you just go out to explore different places to eat?
After all you deserve to indulge once in a while!
South Bombay could be just about the perfect territory to unleash your inner ‘Bhukkad’.
This blog covers the top restaurants and cafes where you can have all your favourite meals from dawn to dusk. So what are you waiting for? Have a look at the recommendations, put on your shoes and go enjoy.
Happy Journey!
Breakfast
There cannot be a better way to kick off your morning than a stroll at Mumbai’s biggest tourist spot, Marine Drive. The seaface is also graced with the perfect breakfast spot to compliment your morning walk called Pizza By The Bay. Through its breakfast menu offer, this place combines delicious food with a beautiful sea view. The speciality here is the different pancakes and waffles which give you a typical American breakfast feel. Some other must haves are its hash brown potatoes, refreshing hot cappuccino and its wide array of fresh fruit juices. Don’t forget to do justice to its name and try the pizza here for a meal later in the day!
Another breakfast spot which will get your mouth watering is Knead Café at Kala Ghoda. It can also provide a satisfying post-walk breakfast. A unique feature of Knead Café is that it has a cooking studio where workshops get held on some occasions. The food has many healthy options, like salads, which by no means have the taste compromised. The flatbreads out here, with various different toppings, are among the best you will find all across South Bombay. If you like adding a little more sweet to the most important meal of the day, Knead’s Blueberry Cheesecake and the Very Berry juice blend will be the first two things you need to try!

Lunch
After an energizing breakfast, you can explore different places in South Bombay. From visiting Jehangir Art Gallery and gazing at the Gateway of India to taking a boat ride in the Arabian Sea, South Bombay has plenty of things to do.
After exploring around in the morning, your taste buds would demand some royalty again. Is there any better royal feeling than that of tasting Indian food? South Mumbai has multiple restaurants which can give you an essence of Indian spice.
When you’re talking about best Indian restaurants in South Mumbai, you really cannot look past Khyber in Fort. Khyber completely nails its North Indian cuisine with paneer being their specialty. You will get served arguably the best paneer makhanwala at this restaurant, due to the combination of soft paneer and the next-to-perfect gravy. The starters are no less, with the mouthwatering paneer shashlik and vegetable kebab being my personal favorites.
Have you heard the phrase, “Old is gold?” It cannot be truer in the case of Swati, one of Mumbai’s most popular Indian restaurants which started in 1963, at Tardeo. Swati’s food is more snacky but can still make for one of the most delicious lunches you can possibly get in this city. Some of the must try food items out here are the Pav Bhaji, Paneer Lifafa (Paneer filled into a bread packet) and the Pani Puri. Aside from offering great food quality it is also pocket friendly, which makes this restaurant nearly flawless.

Evening Snack
A heavy lunch calls for a relaxing afternoon. Bookworms can find their peace in the good old Kitaab Khaana and the movie buffs can spend their afternoon in the theatre. But remember; your third meal means keeping the popcorn away!
There are many cafes where you can enjoy a good evening snack. Coco Café is one of them. Being one of the newer cafes, it has recently gained popularity. What Paneer is to Khyber, what Nachos are to Cream Centre, the Godiva Cookie is to Coco Café. Served as a large chocolate cookie with a piece of Godiva on the top, this makes for a perfect evening snack along with their different types of coffee.
Poetry by love and cheesecake, is a name you must’ve heard before. It is definitely right up there when it comes to serving the best cheesecakes in Mumbai. The vibe of this place is very artistic and it is also stalked with some books and magazines which you can read to pass time after placing your order.

Dinner
South Bombay is at it’s best after the sunset. Following the evening snack, you ought to drop by at High Street Phoenix, Lower Parel for some shopping. This mall is one of the main highlights of the city and it is a busy place during dusk (I bet it can challenge Times Square!). Before a late night drive experiencing Mumbai Nightlife, you need to treat yourself to a lavish dinner. High Street Phoenix has your answer here too, in Hitchki! This restaurant has a unique Bollywood theme which also reflects in the name of the dishes. The service and ambience at this restaurant are outstanding, making any visitor enjoy the vibe. Among the best dishes, are the Til Chahta Hai Bao, which looks like a group of three friends chilling together on a swing and the Harry Pot Rice, which is another beautiful blend of different tastes. Among the desserts you can try out the ‘Bas Kar Pagle Rulaayega Kya’ which is a great combination of cake, brownie, ice cream and truffle.
Another restaurant which you’ll make a mistake overlooking is Nutcracker. I have personally enjoyed eating pasta at this restaurant more than anywhere else. Whether it is the smoky paprika penne, mac & cheese or penne pesto, Nutcracker adds a uniquely satisfying taste to it. If you want to move aside from the pastas you could also try out their Lebanese sandwich which will not disappoint you either. Coming to their dessert, the 7 layered cookie does not just reign supreme on their menu, but can offer a stiff competition to any dessert in the whole of Mumbai!

Not just limited to the South, the different restaurants in Mumbai truly make it a city of dreams. You don’t need to fit it all in just one tour, but who said it’s not possible?
After all dreams do come true!
What a super ‘fun to read‘ blog. My mouth continued to water as I read about all the yummy delicacies 😁😁. So you hit the nail on the head . The pictures are great too. The Godiva cookie looks out of the world. Can’t wait to try it. Waiting for your next one 😊
